RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. [Before Messrs. G. Sumpter and T. A. Clowes, J.P.'s.] ASSAULT. Charles Hawkins was charged with assaulting John Richmond, on the 31st nlfc. The prosecutor deposed that he was standing on the pavement near the Queen's Hotel yesterday, about three o'clock, when he was informed that some person had killed a monkey belonging to him. He then went inside and inquired who the party was. The prisoner was pointed out as the man, and he asked him what motive he had in attacking the animal. The prisoner then committed the assault. Constable Hackett deposed to the arrest, and the Bench sentenced the prisoner to pay a tine of 10s. or go to gaol for forty-eight hours.
