TARANAKI IS WELL CATERED FOR
NO NEED FOR CROWD TO TAKE CASH TO FOREIGN PARTS FORM FANCIES FOR NEW PLYMOUTH m There is no need for the Taranaki crowd to take their coin away to foreign parts over the holidays as New Plymouth, at Christmas, and Stratford, at New Year, supply excellent racing.
A CCEPTANCES for the first day at Pi. New Plymouth are quite good, the big race being the only one not to attract a good field. On Boxing Day the new-formed track, round at the High School bend, will be used for the first time, and the new turn is a vast improvement on the old Tattenham corner. With only seven m the Christmas Handicap there is going to be some confusion, but if track reports are right, the hack, Royal Finance, is going to be the one to beat. She is not vei-y big, but she is dead game. However, she will need to be I all of this to hold off Marjoram, which has been doing particularly well at Trentham. . ' At times Marjoram's running is hard to follow, but should he run up to his best form he would take a power of beating. Melissa should run out the journey while Yoma won't mind it, and if it should be anyway soft he would love it. The Swell and Belle Star may need th.c race. The final fight may be staged between Marjoram and Royal Finance. Going on her two-year-old form Green Linnet is particularly well treated m the Flying, and if she gets an even bi*eak the rest will need to go some. Ridgemount is not liked, but Te Atiawa has the right credentials and so has' Chief Link, which is sure to get some cash before the circuit is completed. Bonogne has been running prominently of late, and he has a liking for* the track. Possibly he will be the one to prove the nuisance to Green Linnet. The cup attached to the Atiawa Hack Cup race has been the magnet and quite a good field is engaged. Royal Finance is also m this, but 'tis said she will not compete. In her absence betting may take a wider range, but the best recent form is that of Spearform", which ran a second and a first at Feilding, and
was also a winner at Waverley on Labor Day. He beat Hawkshaw at Feilding, and Hawkshaw made an exhibition of a big field at Woodville a week later. Crennatown has been doing everything right since his third at Feilding, artd that day he was none tool •lucky. Joyspear, caught at his best, is quite good class, but Callapat j should get the stitch over this distance. Monalof is likely and may be the one to create the surprise. However, judged on recent exhibitions, it is m order to expect Spearform and Crennatown to give them a go for their money.
