Chief Stipe Should Pay Visit
Two Southland incidents, m which Bill Hazlett figured- so prominently, have focussed a good, deal of attention on racing m that province. pOMPLiAINTS- are rife "and it seems apparent that stronger stipendiary .control is needed m the far south. At some of the smaller fixtures the province there-have been pulled some pretty hot things, and the coterie mixed up m the business is not a whit more popular than the Southland president .is with the club's patronß. Not only are horses being de- , tamed on the voyage, but ' riders are starting, to make things unpleasant for their confreres who will not see eye to eye with them. There is an inclination to think of the far .south- as off the map, and the distance to be covered may keep the chief stipe away from the district.. That, however, is a wrong attitude. There is a meeting m Invercargill m a fortnight's time, and the presence of Arch Wilson at the fixture would have a steadying influence.
