Bowlers Extend

Wellington Club's Gala Day (From "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.) THERE was a great . gathering of all the * leading bowlers at the Wellington Green |on Saturday. While the element of luck largely dominates the game, the recognised players are all there when the presentation of prizes takes place. Jack Lowry and his champion rink played a match against a strong club ring skipped by Ted Hill, while Brighting and his team which won the Centre tournament had a game against Porteous and other good Wellington Club players. Routley, the singles champion for the (season, was. associated' with the brilliant pair from Eastbourne, Johns and Rendle, the winners of the Pairs championship. The runhers-up at the Centre tournament also i.had a game, <and the members of the Centre executive, being a delegate from each club, were I all playing. The whole assemblage were the guests lof the Wellington Bowling Club, ' and [very complimentary reference was made lat the presentation of prizes which folllowed, to the hospitality which characterises our senior club. I Its situation m the centre of the Caplital City and its fine appointments attract ■probably more visitors to it than to any ■other club m the Dominion. 8 Never a day passes without some visitor from some part of the world appear■ng on the green, and the open hand of ■ rionclship is extended to them immediately they enter the gate. I The final of the- Junior Pennant was • B played during the afternoon between H Victoria and Johnsonville Clubs. As ■ forecasted, Victoria won, although 8 Johnsonville had a good fighting B chance up to the middle of the game. ■ The Victoria Club, after winning the ■enior Pennant last season, made a poor ■hnwing this year, and while" it loses one Hag, it has secured another to replace it. ■ This is the first - time Victoria has Hown the junior flag, and the privilege Hhould be appreciated as it was one of Bs members, Mr. J. S. Keith, who pre■hnted it about a dozen years ago. ■As usual, there will be an exodus of Hbwlers during the Easter holidays. The MJcal tournament organised by the EastBn Suburbs Clubs is full with 24 entries. ■Jit is probable that almost as many ■liyerß will be distributed between Nel■n, Marlborough, Manawatu and HKunaru. Wm. Two rinks, headed by. Tom Lock, ■ ■Hire regular visitors to Oamaru. Tom 88-ock Is an old Southern player, and Mfoas champion of the Southland and Bbore Clubs before he came to reside Wn Wellington. HBtie was at his best when he was a Hiember of the Te Hiwi Club, but still S| a powo&in the land. B 1
