IMPRESSIVE CUP TRIAL

Chide Completes His Task In Right Fashion

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christchurch Representative). Chide s performance m the Mosgiel Handicap at Wingatui was an impressive N.Z. Oup trial, and if a lightweight is to win the hig event this year he looks the most likely candidate.

PRIOR to the Dunedin meeting he had five consecutive wins to his credit, and he never 'left- the Mosgiel m doubt. He was backed down to a cramped price, and never at any stage of the proceedings did he look like getting beaten. Circulation went away with her usual tear-away tactics, and opened up a gap on the field. Half a mile from home, Bert; Morris decided to take no chance with the leader and let Chide have his head and he quickly reduced gap. Lou. Hazlett's mare couldn't foot it with Chide down the running, the Riccarton horse winning with his ears prlcked.by three-quarters of a length. In his two starts this season Chide has ' won very convincingly, leaving little doubt that he will stay. Whether he will get". to the end of a solidly-run two miles has yet to be proved, but m the meantime he is being solidly supported for the big two-miler. This will be . his next start, as an- j

other win before then would involve him m a penalty. Chide would undoubtedly have left his mark m last year's three-year-old races had he remained sound. { Perhaps the easy season he had as a three-year-old is now assisting him, and he will take his place m the N.Z. Cup field as fit as any of the other runners. : Chide is by Paladin from Reproachful, by Bonny Glen from Lady Disdain, a mare which left two solid stayers m Bee and Snub. I '■■'■■■"'.-'■'■ ■■'■ ' Seeing the j stage MurrayAyrisley's gelding has arrived at, some of those m Christchurch who had a lot to say of his-handi-capping when the weights were issued, must ba feeling rather stupid. North Islanders are rather ;upset over the difference m stake-moneys, the lower standard' m the South allowing Chide, with two wins, to come; in without any alteration to. 1 his '. original impost.
