Runaway Victories
(From' "N/Z. Truth's" Christchurcli Rep.) Runaway victories were secured m two of the senior hockey games which were played on .wet, slippery grounds on Saturday. TRINITY, put up a double- figure score { against a weakened St. Albans team, winning by 11 goals to one, and Selwyn beat Wharenul by eight goals to one. St. Albans were without the services of J. Soper m the backs, and P. N. Quartermain and W. Lucas m the forwards. •'',•'., R. Barnhill, who plays m goal for the Saints, is the youngest senior goalkeeper m Christchurch. . He was well peppered on Saturday and had no chance of stopping the shots of the Trinity forwards.. H. Bell, who is fast approaching the looker-on stage, can still show the youngsters a few points m finding the net. H. Down, who replaced Morris, has lost his pace, and is carrying too much m front ever to stage a come-back. The Varsity — Sydenham game was a gpod one, the latter team winning by 4 goals to three. The absence of H. Ford, Varsity's
left-wing- soloist, who has a poisoned arm, put the students at' a disadvantage. The visiting- Australian team have adopted the - ruling- of the English cricket eleven, and have hung out tne sign, "No wives allowed to tour with the team." ■ . • Although the manager's wife and. family are accompanying the team across the . Tasman they will not be allowed to tour the^country with the players. They will remain m Wellington as the guests of Mr. E. McLeod.
