Cycling A CLOSE FINISH
(From "N.Z. Trull's" Wellington Rep.) Conditions were favorable for fast pedalling last Saturday, and the riders made the most of things. The time turned m for the twentymile run showed they stepped on it. THE wheel of fortune -whirled until it was substantially crazy, then the ball dropped m the slot and for the fourth time this season the figures showed a handicap man to be the winner. ' A dozen men crossed the line m a bunrh, and when the excitement had died down D. Evans was sorted out as the winner. Then came R. Faucett and L. Everett. A hairline separated them. •Evans, from the fiVs minutes mark, rode quite well to head off the 5 mm. ,men; and appears to be on the improve. He is a consistent trainee. , Gordon Staveley put up a popular performance m capturing fastest honors. S. Wright made a strong bid for the final sprint, but Staveley was not to be denied. J. Foote and Don. Toomer rode solid if not spectacular races. They deserve to catch the judge's eye. W. Bray cashed m whatever chances he had by changing bikes. Billy surely knows the rules governing road racing. His co-marker, Pearce., was again missing.
