Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) ■ If the story of Elizabeth Esther McLean can be relied upon, her mother takes the prize for originality and tenacity of purpose. POB some years past Elizabeth has * lived with her aged mother at Sydenham, but the old lady tired of having her well of hospitality continually drained, and took steps to eject her daughter, firstly by passive measures, and, when these failed, by direct action. The mother, Elizabeth Tinnelly, who has exceeded the allotted span by about three years, displayed a determined objection to her daughter's indolent, habits. The daughter, a divorced woman, whese children are at 'present a charge on the State, had studiously avoided any prospects of gaining employment, according to the story told by Subinapector J. Fitzpatrick when the younger, woman was charged with assaulting her mother. Persistently the mother had implored her daughter to endeavor to support herself, but just as persistently the daughter had refused so long as she had a good. home arid nothing to pay for it. Matters were brought to a head i on a recent Saturday evening, . when the daughter returned home to find some of her belongings packed up on the verandah. It was unfortunate for the mother, for her head was the subject of much attention from a broomstick which .the enraged daughter wielded to some purpose.
