GETTING HOT
Reed Is Now Close To Green Tommy Green will have to step on it or He- will find himself m second berth at the end of July. THE race for the jockeys' champiori- *• ship is now left to two horsemen — the accident Bert Ellis met with having put him out of court. Prior to the Easter gatherings, Green, with a lead of fifteen, appeared to be a good thing to win the championship for the second year m succession. But now the odds are that he will get pipped. Prior to Wanganui, Tom had a lead of six over Roy Reed, but he failed to ride 1 one home at the meeting. On the other hand, Roy on two winners-r-Bisox and Keddar. The margin is now only four— and there are two months to go. Prom now on, of course, neither horseman gets a great many opportunities — jumping races predominate on programmes — and wins will not be too plenty. Whichever way the honor goes m the finish, Palmerston is going to get its share of the limelight — or, at least, the Palmerston district.'
