THAT LABOR DAY DATE

Another Test of Strength Will Soon Be Staged (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) There is again likely to be trouble over the allocation of the Labor Day date m the Waikato.

IT will be remembered that the late Minister of Internal Affairs overruled the Conference m the matter last year— after the Cambridge "heads" got busy. The main facts are too well known to need full repetition, but, In short, the Waikato Hunt Club has a priority claim, though by racing m October it Is the only hunt club which races out of the hunting season. | By continuing to race on the Labor Day holiday, the Waikato Hunt Club Is hoarding up money from the racing public. On the other hand the Waikato Racing Club, which is m financial difficulties, wishes the date to help it along. The northern district dates commit - ;ee is again siding with the Waikato Flaring Club m the matter. In July, the Conference will probably follow suit and recommend the hunt slub to find some other date. "• But the Cambridge "heads" are not going to be satisfied with an ordinary profit. They Intend to fight the matter out on the "priority" claim, and gain for the hunt . club all possible cash that the holiday provides.

And this Is provided not only at* the expense of a deserving racing club, but also to the cost of horse owners and racing enthusiasts alike. It remains to be seen whether Cambridge can once again claim sufficient political influence to be allowed to wax fat on the racing public, or whether the Minister of Internal Affairs will nip the present squeal from Cambridge In the bud by leaving finality m the hands of the Kacing Conference. The Conference, which meets m Wellington m July, is rightly entitled to be able to conduct its . ' own affairs and must be allowed I to do so. HE IS A GOER, TOO DALLYFARNON'S schooling tasks *^ over country up north' are awaited because of an engagement he claims m the Hunt Club Cup. Word from Hawkes Bay is to the effect that he knows all about clearing hunting obstacles.' AFTER his pleasing form over country at Wanganui, northerners are waiting to plank the cash on Mixed Heather, if he cpm«s north for the Greenlane Steeples.
