Manoy— His Town
A STRANGER once dropped into, the town of Motueka at night time; and, seeking to find his location, examined the shop signs closely. He found the name, Manoy and Sons so often that he came to the conclusion that Manoy ville was surely the name of the place. And well he might, for without the Manoy Bros., Motueka would not be Motueka and without Harry Manoy there would be an impression of something missing that no amount of apple cider could obliterate. Harry is widely travelled and could tell a tale or. two about his experiences and adventures m South Africa, some of the most interesting of which would relate to his discoveries on the Gold Coast where he was engaged on making investigations of diet as practised by the Portuguese residents there. But ho is nothing if not reticent, and likes best to spend quiet hours m the comfort of the residence m Motueka which he modestly likes to refer to as his "bach."
An enthusiastic sportsman, he has done much for, Rugby and amateur athletics m the Golden Bay district and when he received the highest office of umateur sport that the Dominion offers, the presidency of the 1 New Zealand Rugby Union, he carried out hiaduties with dignity and credit.
