NOT UP TO IT
When Romford Failed To Romp Home (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) When practically unknown last season, Romford pounced on Ellerslie from the Waikato and ran up to a late boom by taking a mile hack race, returning a surprisingly short price for a horse with practically no public form as a recommendation. THEN punters set themselves to keep *• their eyes open for Romford, though it was not till the March fixture at Paeroa that he was again caught m winning vein. There he proved superior to Tinakoa and others by racing home m front from the seven-furlong peg m 1.26 3/5, but the distance is admittedly short. Subsequently inquiries set m for Romford to such an extent that the son of Nassau — Fallwin was regarded as something approaching a "moral" for the Titirangi mile at Avondale. In that particular race it was hardly m his favor to chase Prince Lv from the hop-off, and he was finally beaten into seventh place, after looking likely prior to the turn. Romford will certainly win m his turn, but "N.Z. Truth" will not have it that he is quite as good as he has been boomed.
There were those who were inclined to believe him a champion.
