Warning Note To Santa

THRISTMAS is almost here and Christmas counts a whole lot with the kiddies. He is a poor kind of man who doesn't want to make some youngster the happier and she is a poor kind of woman who doesn't shove a present m tho baby's sock. But this year it is up to us to give a little more thought to this tremendous event. We should send a note of warning to Santa Claus. He is a very estimable old gentleman, but is apt to suffer from short-sightedness. In the past he has paid but little attention to the origin of the toys with . which he seeks to bring joy to the world of children. He has so many to distribute that he can hardly be expected to examine each of them, and, if we are not careful, this year he will be just as careless. A Note is the thing. . There is not much joy m a Christmas trumpet which refuses to make a noise after three blows 5 there is only tragedy for the kiddy who finds that the wonderful mechanical toy goes wrong m its innards before Christmas dinner is over. Last year, and the year before that," and the year before that again, we were very cross with little Jimmy because his torpedo boat destroyer ran on the rocks before 9 a.m., and we growled dreadfully at Susie because the little imp put her toy parasol up and down and the catch snapped at a quarter-past ten. But the truth has been dawning on parents m the months m whicfl there was no Christmas. Jimmy and Susie were not to blame. The real trouble lay with Santa Claus. He accepted delivery of his bundles of toys without examining them. Let us .warn the old chap that this mistake must not occur again. Let us remind him that there are countries which make honest toys — New Zealand is one of them — that are lasting joy's for the kids who receive them. In fact, tell Santa Claus point blank that the peace of. Christmas Day depends on how many of his toys are British made, and how many are Japanese or German.
