TAKING RISKS
Green's Fearless
Riding
It is no use dwelling round the turns at Whangarei. Tommy Green was evidently fully awake to this fact when he adopted his rushirtg tactics on Eden Hall round the first turn m the Park mile last Saturday.
TN his desire to gain a favorable ppsi- ■*■ tion, Green brought the whip into use, which got Eden Hall up so close as to meet with trouble from Athenry, whose horseman ("Wiggins) was also, anxious to negotiate the curve smartly. Eden Hall got the worst of the deal and there was an inquiry, but the only outcome was that Green received a caution for unnecessary use of the whip at the bend. It was an unusual happening, and both were partly to blame, though the real trouble appeared to come about through the desire of Eden Hall's rider to improve his position. He was certainly a trier, and onlookers relish the horseman who gives it a true go for their money on small tracks. .
There were other horsemen riding at Whangarei who displayed no desire to take any risk at all. In truth, they were absolutely frightened — and this was observed by owners and trainers, , who are not likely to rush their services m future.
