LADIES' DAY IS WEDNESDAY
New Zealand Oaks Sees Fillies
In Action
Oaks Day is Ladies' Day and the New Zealand Oaks will be run at Riccarton on Wednesday next.
AS is always the case, the race has not drawn an over-plus of competitors and it will not be nearly as interesting as the Derby. Several of the fillies engaged have some form to their credit, but m most cases it is poor form. Perhaps two of the field — Doree and Eulalie — are outstanding-, with the former the better of the pair on performances. Doree beat Paleta m the Hawkes Bay Guineas — a little lucky, admittedly — while m the Wainui Handicap at Trentham, she downed a pretty goodclass field. As for Eulalie, she was just beaten by Ark Royal m the Dunedin Guineas and good judges present say that she should have won. Doree gives the impression that she will find the mile and a-half journey more to her liking than Eulalie will.
The latter's Absurd blood may tell against her m the run home. The Chokebore stable has two engaged — Scrambler and Sky Quest. Doree will most likely be able to hold both of them safe. A filly that has shown good, form m hack races this season is yigUance, while Tone has been noticed lnr.i6ne or two of her outings. • v V-V V /' The running of WildVPigSori ha?: been hard to follow at times 'and she/ must have her party confused. On her race at Masterton last Saturday, she is no Oaks proposition. Luminant has won two races within a week and she is bred the right way to run out the twelve furlongs. Bourse and Priceless are, on form, anything but potential Oaks winners. Most interested may be prepared to leave the issue to Doree.
