Childsplay Will Set Welcome Field A Task
In two-year-old classics decided to date there is no possible doubt about who's who m the speed competition.
A NICE, neat filly, named Childsplay, i with the pace of a tin -hare, has, by right of conquest m battle, been declared queen of all she surveys. The speedy little lady will next | be on view on Saturday m the Welcome Stakes. . I I The field that will oppose her will Ibe much the same as she has met — and unless something has made a remarkable improvement there seems little chance of the crown going elsewti6ro At Trentham, Ohildsplay did not get any the best of the jump-away, but It did not take her long to get up to the leader. The way she went past that leader was good to watch. The leader was Endorse and she will probably fill that role for a while on Saturday. Where she failed at Trentham she is almost a certainty to crack at Riccarton. It's a long way home from that false rail — and courage and stamina are needed. Prince Humphrey is not there to
chase Childsplay as he did at Trentham, but Tea Miss, which ran third is. She was going fast at Trentham, though too far back to have an earthly with the winner. Royal Duke, the handicap winner at Trentham, pleased with his run, and the way he came horne — straight as a die — was impressive. Just how he does on his travels will have something to .do with hia chanoe. Bridget and Flloker will travel fast; the latter Is a great sticker for one of her inches. Noteworthy waa easily beaten by Childsplay at Wlngatui, so In his case he should again be downed. Silver Paper is one they talk a lot about m the south, but something more than talk will be needed on Saturday. Staghunter can be improved, "but it looks like the summer or autumn before the best is seen of him. Another that may come under that category is High Disdain, a fine type of galloper. The tote staff should not be overworked m taking money, except on one candidate.
