G.N. CHAMPAGNE STAKES
Can Lysander Beat Joy King ?
AUSSIL MAY UPSE.T THINGS
(From "Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) The Result of the G. N. Champagne Stakes on Saturday is byno means a foregone conclusion..
IT is even difficult to predict the actual favorite unless it is Joy King. He is a more recent winner than Lysander, and when he .won at Najpier he carried a welter impost. > It seems certain that this pair will carry the bulk, of the investments. They met twice at the A.R.C. summer meeting, Lysander winning the G.N. Foal Stakes when their poundage was evenJoy King captured the Royal Stakes when he was not hampered to the same extent by penalties as his Wanganui rival. It was stated that Lysander was suffering from the effects of a cold that day. It is to foe hoped that neither will be troubled with ills- on Saturday and that the contest between this pair of two-year-oiqs will be absolutely decisive. At his best Lysander is a speedy beginner, while some people hold the view that Joy King is becoming fractious at the barrier. •
If he displays that habit this weekend his prospects will not be favored. Both promise to strip at their best. Their most dangerous opponent may prove to be Aussie, which won a juvenile douttle at Te Aroha m great style. He .will not be tiring of the distance at the right end. * | In fact, if it was a seven furlong contest instead pf six, his prospects might be even brighter, for it is known that he has been given the right work. No one vp 1 north who has seen the son of Fortaflx # m action will be greatly surprised if he' makes it hard the last little bit. . Limited is another which has to be reckoned with, .while Tea Bell and Threadneedle, on their be.st form, can be looked for to keep the race from resolving itself into a farce. Lysander, Joy King and Aussie may fill the places.
