Auckland Is Dirty
What was said m "Truth" lately of New Zealand cities, with special reference to Wellington, is true also of Auckland. ' BEAUTIFUL summer does not m all LJ respects enhance the charm of Auckland City. The city fathers do not apparently know that such vehicles as watering-- carts exist, for only on the rarest occasions is one seen m the streets. . • . When the city's solitary wateringcart does make an appearance, it invariably coincides with a heavy downpour, or just follows one! It does not.send the passing traveller on his or her way with a good impression of the Queen City when the principal streets are a whirl of dust, with which is intermingled scraps of paper, and the various, forms of filth inseparable from busy thoroughfares that are unlcept and neglected. It must be apathy that is responsible for -the continued state of filthiness year after year; otherwise the merchants, who are as great sufferers as the promenading, public, would have made effective protest before now. Auckland's: street , sanitation methods are ineffective and prehistoric. .
