Blood Wilt Tell
Case of Koodoo's Dam A couple of weeks back there appeared a paragraph m these notes about Kowerewere, dam of Koodoo. The paragraph has drawn- the following interesting; reply from "Bend Or." who writes from Te Kuiti: — "I was very interested m your note re Koodoo's dam. I cannot quite agree with you, however, that her -breeding is 'unfashionable.' Certainly Tier sire, Kopiri, and her dam, Puwerewere, did not particularly distinguish, themselves, but m the case of the former it may have been for lack of opportunity—! am unable to say anything about that. But just look at her grandparents on both sides of the tree. Cyrenian was one of the most beautifully bred horses ever imported to New Zealand, an.H. up to his time the most expensive. I-Ie had the reputation of toeing the best son of St. Simon ever imported to the colonies, and but for the fact that he unfortunately died after serving- two seasons m New Zealand, ho would undoubtedly have left a much greater and more lasting influence on the thoroughbred of this country. "Moon?a, Kowcrewere's paternal gr.tnckln.iTi, was dam of the mighty Seahorse, to say nothing- of Powerful and many other good performers. "Her maternal grandsire, Norrtenfeldt, it is 'needless to dilate upon, while Pungawhcrewhere was dam of Brigadier, Crackshot. Tetford and numbers of others, and helped to found one of the greatest colonial-bred lines m New Zealand. Blood like this is sure to come out, even if it does sometimes skip a generation."
