MARKED CONTRAST.
In Fielding of Both Sides.
There was a marked contrast m the work, of ( the respective sides m the field. Tlie home side gave away many runs through careless picking up and loose returning, while there were a number of overthrows which emphasised the efficacy of covering up. The Wellingtonians on . Saturday gave a faultless display m the . field, but did not repeat their display on Monday, accountable perhaps, to the greasy conditions. The visitors also showed better than their opponents m running
between the wickets m which department the home men declined many valuable runs. Garrard and Postles made an attempt to force things at one stage and notched several short ones. Towards . the close of Auckland's first essay Wellington dropped two or three through Baker, Prince and " McGirr.
