THE GAME IN CANTERBURY.

The N.Z. championships having been settled, the cult of the big wallop m Canterbury is concentrating its attention on the mighty mill between Jimmy Hagerty and Peter Cook next week. Hagerty is training at Timaru "and according to all accounts, has topped off bis "preparation" for Peter. During the week, writer gazed on Cook's present fighting form, which seems to be better than on any previous occasion. Peter went a willing 16 rounds m which he was accommodated by Ernie Morris (4 rounds), Chris Rhodes (2), Alf Musson (3), Billy Cooper (3), Len King (2), Tyo Turner (1). Jimmy Thompson, who is to meet George Olsen m a 18-round "pro" go at Christchurch on the 13 th inst, is working part of his sparring operations with Beter Cook, and is already "ginger." The curtain-raiser for the Cook -Hagertyand Thompson-Olsen mills have not yet been definitely decided, but it is ott' the cards that Norman Vernall will be bitched up for half a dozen rounds with Ernie Morris, and E. Penwell will be. asked to ■clash with Len King. Judging by Hagerty having been matched "with Prank Ellis it seems that those "above" reckon Jimmy, is the "marble" for Peter Cook. Whether he is or not is a matter to be decided. .. *t is reported that lan Grant and Tom Grandly have been hitched up for a match at Christchurch shortly. Grant is a hard hitting gink, whose biggest stumbling block seems to be over-confidence. ; Gondry was, m the palmy days, brought out by Jimmy Watson and has returned to the shelter of his wing until his match with Grant conies off. Len Cade is also with Jimmy Watson. He is due for a mill with Norman some time next week. Another preliminary will be provided by Charlie CbisnaU and Biddle. • In three of these mins Jimmy Watson's pupils are engaged, which seems to indicate that Jimmy's little school; ak Sydenham is booming. .
