Auckland Notes.
The North Shore-Grafton match was the only fixture m the district cricket championship concluded on Saturday. Neither the Eden-University nor ParnellPonsonby matches were continued on ac- ! rount of the sodden wickets. Heavy rain fell on Friday night and Saturday moming was overcast. Grafton had on the previous Saturday made 92, while North Shore were all dismissed for 42. On resuming last Saturday Grafton made a good stand, and m two hours knocked up 186 for the loss of six wickets, when they declared the innings closed. . Towards this total Hay made 44, Horspool 40, and McCormick 26. North Shore went to the wickets Jo play out time. The light was very bad and the proposition put up to them very solid. They were not eqoial to it, and made only 87 for the loss of eight wickets. The first two men, Farquharson, and Prime, were the pick of the batsmen and made 20 and 22 respectively. When they were both out a rot jet m. .Spence 10 (not out) was the only other North Shore batsmen to make anything of a stand. Grafton won a two-point victory. This made North Shore's third loss m succession — the only losses they have had —yet they still retain the lead for the championship and cannot now be beaten. They have yet to meet Eden, but if the latter scored a three-point win, North Shore would still be one point ahead of Grafton. j Shacklock was the successful bowler of the afternoon. He took five wickets for 20 runs. Neill took three for 25. The Auckland Umpires' Association decided to disband last week. There has been trouble brewing for some . time, because members were ignored when umpires were appointed for the Plunket Shield matches, and the upshot has been that the umpires have now refused their services m club cricket. The excuse put forward is that the members of the Association consider junior cricket has suffered by indifferent umpiring, and they have decided to give their assistance; to . the colts.
