Dunedin Notes.
The First Grade Championship is going this year to Opoho, a twopoint win by the hill team against Carisbrook A settling the matter. Continuing last Saturday's innings for Carisbrook, Cameron gave the score a bit of a boost along with 23, and Fenwick came to light with a useful 30, but the rest of the team found Callaway's bowling too hot on the wicket, and the innings closed for 110. With 194 m its first innings., Opoho had another go, and pulled together 113 m the second. . Kenny kept up
his reputation for good solid cricket by putting together 27, and the redoubtable Callaway, whose bowling had worried Carisbrook, worried it some more as a batsman and piled up the top score of 34. McGavin did not come «p to expectations and was clean bowled by Bannerman with a noble ito his credit. The rest of the team were* very modest, retiring with eights, fours and election frudt. There was nothing startling about Opoho's bowling, although Butherford got three for 24 and Bannerman five for 25. Carisbrook was up against a hopeless task — 197 to make m the i*est of the afternoon— and when stumps were lifted had shown a rally by putting together 120 for sfix wickets. For Cardsbrook, Adams and Bannerman gave things a good lift along — batting both well and carefully. Adams got together 41, when he sent a catch to Downes, whilst Bannei--man carried his bat for 29. The rest of the six made no great impression. The Grange-Albion match was also settled, and Grange took home a four-point win after a good go. Albion had put up 292 irf its first innings, and Grange came very close with '2B6, its star turn being a century and one by C. Chadwick, with Downes 78 a good second. The rest of the team kept up a good average. Albion then took a second innings, but struck a snag m King's bowling, and went out m a mere procession for 58. Hiddlestone was , the only man who could stand up to. the demon King, and w a s likewise the only man who reached, double figures. Also he carried his bat for 25, being first man m, thus showing how things were for poor Albion. Eight was the next highest score, made by Duthie, and the rest were twos and eggs. King got no less that seven wickets for 25 runs and Downes helped with three for 25. Grange's second innings panned out 70 for six wickets when stumps were drawn, and they scored a good win by 4 wickets and G runs. Carisbrook B and Dunedin advanced their match the further stage on Saturday, when Carisbrook managed to get a' two-point win from the city team. Dunedin had made 149 m the first innings, and Carisbrook had five down for 76 on the first day's play. Resuming, Carisbrook managed to pile together 228 m their second innings, whilst Dunedin could v show up only 86 for three when time was called.
