Julian's nick name) would ride his own race. The owner, himself led the charge at 'the bookies, and it is said that he had the big bet of £230 to £200. burely a very short price ? Odds on were laid at the finish, but again they did not com*, the punters' way, as Maggie Paul, despite her rise m weight, again won. It tniis* he admitted v that the Auckland horse was a. trifle unlucky, inasmuch' '.as %. was leveJ at the last fence with the;, winner, but he made a faulty leap and 'ost' a couple of lengths and also the _race \- . .
The poor jumping was.? without, .doubt,, the cause of his defeats, and*- his pace on the flat is undisputed, bujb- until he becomes more proficient at'-jiebcmg-< he will hot win, except m poor company..; He is a rare cut of a hurdle horse-, but he jumps very wildly, and at some fences goes up m the air, while others he bangs through.
