THE WANGANUI CUP.
The well-knbwri handicapper, Mr G. Moisc, has hurled forth his challenge to pick the Wanganui- Cup, and punters are now setting' themselves to the task with great earnestness. : . With one or two exceptions, the handicap seems to be a good one, and should ensure a good acceptance. Of course,' the only possible top weight was All Red, who has got 9.B— pr a stone more than the next horse. The top weight is such a really good performer that he has, only to reach the post at his best and he and Jemiins will be sure to give a good account of themselves. Crucinella (8.8.) won the Wellington Cup when only half ready, with 101 b less on her back. The next day she was never prominent m the Summer Handicap, and this would seem to show that the race had heen too much for her. However, she .'has had plenty of time to get over that, and should strip a better mare . at Wanganui than- at Trentham. This makes her out to possess a real good chance. Husbandman (8.7) failed m the Wellington Cup with a pound less. The extra two furlongs at. Wanganui is not likely to assist him, and his claims cannot he advocated. ■ . . - Diabolo (8.6) seems very badly treated, and this scribe ■■ thanks that those foolish, punters who rushed m early and backed him before the weights may have burnt their fingers. ■•',." Ringdove (8.5) is.; another who has .always failed over -H, miles, tnough she, has run . some, good . races, and the .; Wan." ganui. distance is= 'likely, t.o^he.^beyond. her. Roosevelt (&.0) is always., there, thereabouts, ' but more ofteni the latt'erj and he is going -tg'- run loose as far as "Spearmint" is concerned. Lady Lucy (8.0) won the N.Z. Cup, tout subsequently ran very badly at FeiWing, and may not be right '"yet. But were she landed at the ,ppst*:fit and well, she is ,such a good .' stayer ' that the race would not be beyond. -'her. However, as no information isv'to hand concerning her, it is better to hang off. Taskmaster ~v(7.s&) is well treated, and if "he has gone- on the right way since Trentham, he will be a hard proposition for the othersj on -March hrd. He is one of the best -jS-yr-olds m New Zealand, and may prove his worth , once again at Wanganui^ . Advocate (7.10) Iran m the last Wanganui Cup, hut hej tT failed to act on this course. "-•'s~r v V Milan (7.10) is a ?good, solid mare. She continues to win regularly, and by the time this race comers on will he one of the fittest horses raping. Sir Prize (7.9) pulied up lame at Hawera, and his trainer will be unable to give him a proper preparation. Kilwinning (7.9) may drop out m favor of Taskmaster. Merrivonia (7.9) is a doubtful runner. Merrie Zealand (7\6) is hardly Cup class. ■''.'. Sir Antrim (7.6), is w^ l enough m, and if Be can stay will he • very hard to beat. Sedition (7.4) has been given a great chance, and on Ellerslie form he cannot be overlooked. Lady Medallist (7.1) is, not a stayer. Osiris (7.1) must"be given a chance, as his form at Trentfiatri was really good. None of the others call for special men^. tion except Fir-ld ,Gun (fi.lo) and Perolina (6.7). Both these? however, require good, strong horsemen,, and it will be,, difficult to supply their wants. . . .. -• ? "Spearmint's" quartette is— All. JRedJ; Crucinella, Taskmaster, Milan., . ,
