PETONE 15 v. OLD BOYS 6.
Old Boys went down to Petone, butt for a long time had the suburban supporters anxious. Condition had a big say m the concluding stages, and a distressed look was noticeable on one or two of the White brigade. The sure taking m particular, kicking and general solidity of the Blue rearguard was m marked contrast to the opposition's, but forward things were with the Whites. They secured possession m nearly every scrum, and though the heeling was indifferent, executed an occasional screw m very fair style. In the close work and generally wheu they had control of the ball, matters were good with the Old Boys, hut a good Petone boost hard and strong to the backs meant trouble, and m the finish little difficulty was experienced m notching a try or two. Smyrk was unreliable and very slow m getting rid of the ball, but fortunately was generally given plenty of time. Had the Old Boys had' A. Watkins, the Blue man would have had the idea that he had been struck by some mysterious airship. . * ■ ■ Ryan was heartbreaking to the by sing forwards, and Miller's dash was in'i. ; dence on every apportunity. CleV Green .was badly served by his forwaros and did not shine, and the same may be said of McKenzie, but both were safe. Price and Hardham were keen, and of the pack Sharldon, Dent and Lindsay were always about when wanted; Jacobsen and Hannah, for the Whites, hooked m great style. Frerberg locked the scrum well and was always good m the line-work. Alexander plugged away m his usual solid style and Avery was always ready to take advantage of any possible opening. This winger must have scored In nearly every match this season and is also a serviceable place-kick. Matthews, the other winger,, has* any amount of dash and can move somewhat. Thomson played a good game m tne first half, but was of no use m the second—too absolutely tired. Gilbert was the best back and played consistently, but received no support from his mates (barring Dawson).
