PALMERSTON LIBRARY.
Corrupt and Cowardly Carnegie.
Some soulless public men m Palnrcrston North were minded some time back to apply to millionaire Carnegie for a portion of his bloodmoney for the purposes of the public library, but others m the community who had heard that the man of iron had made his bioodle by sweating his employees, whom he shot down with the aid of hired bravadoes on one notable occasion, protested loudly against thds abject mendicancy. ' It was proposed as an alternative that a loan should be raised, and that, the community should bear the liability man honorable manner. On Thursday "Truth"' got a special wire stating that the loan- had been carried with great enthusiasm, and the town which is mostly a square will absorb its literature m the future with, clean hands and clean consciences. This paper desires to congratulate Mayor Essex, who was the moving spirit m the anti-Carnegie movement.
