CHIVVVING THE CHOWS.
Tliere are so many Chinkies loafing' round dens m Madras Street, Christcmncl), that it wasn't surprising that when Clrairlie July was assaulted the other day m the monifli of May, a yellow horde rushed out and gave the! three larrikins rats, or whatever it is they give them. At all events Charlie had a "bad time, and toad the ofiemders before- the Court for "saltinc " him, and he salted them. ,The three 'bright blokes were James Richardson, Walter Rogeirs, and John Racers, and the swearing was 'something frightful. Well, it couldn't be much worse. It appears that not only did they 'biff Charlie July, or Jianuary, or whatever his name is, hut they welted a gent named Live Chong. Charles was learning to ride a bike m order to take his tart out, and the defendants made some derogatory remarks a'Tsout h>is horsmanstoip, or Something, and he put his machine a - side with aili tlie dagmity of afield admiral stowinc away his tucker, and sailed m. His yarn was that they sailed at him, and made some impolite remari-s concernina; his per-
push that he was a blooming monkey, and a bally Ohinkie, and that he was carrying, cabbages m his waistcoat pocket, ; and that he had bananas m his hat. At all events the remarks were quite uncomplimentary, and instead 1 of them handing him their ..visiting cards, one of them hit him, and knocked him head over heals m the bally gutter. It was a . picturesque sight.- Someone flung a brick just here, tout where it went to or whether it is still flying through space is not exactly known. Anyhow, another yellow monkey/ Ohbne;, was "Mowed .to tilie eye," as -he term-edit.- Blowed -k, ! i^oiod. A piece of concrete figiurod somewhere . m the iprioceedings, hut it does not appear to have been m active commission, seeing that it hit nothing of ccnseciuence. However, there was much flying pigtail, and flying boy at the end- of the fracas ; but at Court the three defendants . dlenicd on their oath, or on the sfiur of the moment or something that they had -not hit the Chhifts, ot flew blue or white metal, or bricks at them, or anything. It was a gay proceeding. Magistrate Day gave the trio ' a talking, to ; he plainly didn't. -"believe their yarn, and toTd them so. He said that baiting Chows would! have ' to be put a v&top to. Their fun cost them a 'quid find costs, and a mob of Chinkies wearing a smile like a dazzling sunray, went fdrth to "lant shark sesd m their respective plots.
