BOWDEN, BOY BLUDGER.
S.M. Dyer looked very severe at a young fellow who was introduced to him, through the charge sheet, a few days ago. Cove's name, Thomas Bowden, aged 20, reputed trade or profession, Bludger. Charge sheet didn't say bludger, it was more polite accusing Tom of consorting with renuted immoral women. Naughty Tom ! Two 'tecs got up and said all the' most damnable things about . his character— bad character ; they were quite unkind, really. Bowden, on his own behalf, swore blind that .he lived on his own means, and Lawyer Pollen, who defended the dear boy. said prisoner's father had told him* a better son never lived than Thomas. 'Whether Bowden pere was "pollen" the lawyer's lee. or had forgotten the old adage about the good dying younr. isn't known. The up-shot of it was that S.M. Dyer told Bowden he had better alter his mode of living, quick and lively, or he'd go un. sure. Then he saw fit to convict the, "clean living" youth and ordered him to come for judgment . when called on. Such is Dyer's justice. He might, when he . has time, ask for a few details anent Bludger Bowden (including the episode when he took a "lady" to Rototua and she "worked" the town uightly), _, ' .
