But was Fluent to the Clerks.

Wee Chong, like most of his race, is a cheeky, cunning Chow, whw fancies if he "no savee's" every time he comes into conflict with the law everything will g0 hj s way . , Last Monday, Wee Chong, who is a fruiterer, was billed to appear at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr Riddell, S.M., on a- charge of having failed to comply with an order from ths Labor Department commanding him to furnish returns of his establishment m connection with tbe hands employed, etc., etc.^ Mr Wilford, wh» appeared for the Celestial, pleaded guilty on his behalf, and explain? 4 that the "hay then" could not speak a word of English, and when he p-ot the notice from the Department hs thought it was some qiiack pill and potion advertisement, and being a collector of such stuck it on the file, with the rest, and never thought any more about it.
