I Russell Sage, the New York millionaire and railway magnate, left £16,000,000— n0t dollars, mind— when he died the other day ; and he died •as he lived, a miserly hunkn. bequeathing not one cent to charity and only a beggarly £5000 each to, 26 nephews and neices. And he "fixed" these by providing that any beneficiary contesting the w'!l wil) 'fox *i'it their little cut. Almost such things induce one to believe m future punishment—for some people. In convicting a young man for drunkenness, at the Lyttelton Police Court recently, the presiding justice, Mr S. R. Webb, said he was afraid that the youth of New Zealand were drinking ■ a good deal more than they were a few years back. Many cases had come under his own observation whYch went to show that the statements published m the newspapers to the contrary were absolutely wrong. "Truth" 'isn't one of, ,those newspapers. It's a daily occurrence m the Wellington S.M. Court for youngsters with previous gonvictions to be uu, for drunkenness.
