"THE WORLD'S PICTURES."

Moving picture entertainments were never *o popular as at the piresent time, and one reason for 'tins popularity is the acme of perfection achieved in the reproducing of the films. The steadiness with which the pictures ar# thrown upon the screen- make lit a pleasure to watch th«m instead of one's eyes being strained by the constant flicker as in bygone days, and wiich flicker is not altogether • absent in some Wellington shows of the kind, even yet. Another reason is that instead' of the whole entertainment' being made up of "faked" subjects, the companies in America, England and the Continent spare neither time nor expense in obtaining films of the greatest' events of the day and of scenes of distant countries and pleasure resorts of th» world. So •those residents of this city who have not the time (and principally the ready money) to tour the world and see for cchemselves ali 1 that is to be seen, have, so to speak, the world •brought to their own firesides. •'The World's, Pictures,'' which are to be .shown in Wellington for a short season at the Opera House, commencing on Wednesday next, Ist August, promise a selection which, should not fail 'to please. T-he representative ; of the management an .America has picked out films 'which include a comprehensive tour of the world and the latest in colored motion-pictures, of which a feature is made in the entertainment, besides imany startlingly dramatic- and reatts/fcie chase pictures. In. Mir Edwin Brookes the, Company? has a singer who comes; with flattering notices from the press. Popular prices are to *be charged, and the management have decided that there shall be no early /doors. A matinee is to "be-igiven next .Saturday.
