J. C. Willamson's Opera-Company.
line return'-- season, of this bril^iaiit "company, which closed last night, has been one continuous, triumph, both from a managerial and an artistic pofkit of view. The comany is' strong in every department and the manner in which a series of rapid changes, lias been operated reflected the higest credit pn Mr Bracey, the general director, Mr Whitfield, stage manager and all those concerned. Of the artists engaged nothing that is not in the highest strain of compliment can be said ; there not being a weak, spot in any of the seven productions that have delighted Wellington. The revival'of "Patience" was a veritable triumph, in which the chief participators were Howard Vernon (who makes his Biuithorne much broader comedy, now the aesthetic cult is deader than the dodo, and much less subtly too-tbo than in the days when it flourished)' and Miss CeMa G-hiloni, who is certainly the best Lady Jane this paper ever saw in any part of the world. Others who both sane; jmd acted well were Missies Aggie,: Thorn, an adorable Lady Agatiia; and Vinia De Loitte (who by the way is really Bunthorne's Bride !), Dolly Castles' Patience was ' a pretty, attractive performance, but the young voice is wearing sadly and' heeds a rest in her own land of sun. shine. Last night the house was packed again when "The Gondoliers" was excellently presented and enthusiastically received. During the interval Miss Olive Godwin and Mr Bracey rendered songs which were much appreciated, and the night's "entertainment closed with "Trial by "Jurv." The final curtain rose again .to the clamors of a house worked up to acclamation point, and had to he raised again and again ere the audit ceased farewell ing.
