MONEY FOR RESERVES
UNDER CONSIDERATION CLAIM FOR HEALTHFUL RECREATION, That healthful recreation comes next in importance to good water and drainage is the contention of the Sports Protection League, which has the whole of the sports bodies behind it in its request to the city council that certain definite promises shall be made in the new estimates for reserves, this including new work, extensions, buildings, provisions for swimming etc. The Reserves Committee is recommending that the ratepayers should be asked to sanction n loan of £50,000 to carry through a substantial portion of works whic.l have recently been enumerated in these columns, but the proposals have yet to go before the Finance Committee, which (will make its recommendations to the oouncil in duo course. Tliore is reason to believe that the Sports Protection League will make further representations to the Finance Committee, asking it to support the recommendation that a loan schedule be placed before the ratepayers for approval.’
