CANTERBURY TOURNEY RESULT OF FIRST DAY’S PLAY VISITORS SUCCESSFUL Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, January 20. Blue skies and bright sunshine favoured the commencement of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's provincial championship tournament at Wilding Park to-day. Play was confined to twelve grass courts, which were used for the first time. Despite the fact that they had been well watered and rolled it was soon found that they were not conducive to very fast tennis. The leading results are: MEN'S SINGLES FIRST ROUND. C. C.
