NEW ZEALAND LEAGUE TEAM
"MORAL SUCCESS” CLAIMED LOYAL PLAYERS PRAISED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, January 18. Six members of the Rugby League Council went to London to bid farewell to the New Zealand touring'team. Messrs Ponder and Mair, managers of the team, declared that the dispute in the team would do no harm if the New Zealand Council fully investigated it. The 19 non-strilcers had displayed the highest sporting instincts. Future tours would be more successful if the authorities were more careful, in the selection of players, Although the team only won 60 per cent, of its games, its moral success was greater, as most of the men played under most trying conditions.
Mr Mair pointed out that the managers had no power to fine the players, which was a British and Australian custom. The New Zealand authorities trusted to members of the team playing the game.
