TELEPHONE BOXES
NEW TYPE CAST IRON CATERING FOR WELLINGTON’S NEEDS,' The scheme for the gradual improvement of telephone facilities for the public of Wellington is being steadily carried out by the Post and Telegraph Department, and although at the moment several of the local municipal electors and progressive associations are pressing their claims, there is every reason to believe that in the course of the next year or so there will be no reason to complain of the telephone facilities provided in any part of the city and suburbs. Some of the new telephone booths or kiosks will be of cast-iron, following an English design by Sir Gilbert Scott, R.A. This type will be mainly used in the city, particularly where space is an important factor. In places exposed to the weather the new kiosks will be constructed of spun concrete by the Hume Pipe Company, so will be of New Zealand workmanship. These will be similar to those in use in Australia and South Africa.
