Mr Kermit Roosevelt has announced that the Shipping Board Fleet Corporation has assigned two converted motor-ships, the West Cusseta and the West Honaker, each of 8000 tons, and ojperated by the Roosevelt Steamship Company, to the Atlantic-Australian line, owing to increased trade between Australia and the United States. The Cusseta sails on January 22nd with a cargo of automobiles, oil, and merchandise, and the Honaker sails in February. Both steamers will carry mails and can accommodate passengers. Mr Roosevelt said: “Commerce between two nations separated by great distances needs the increased speed, the larger cargo capacity, and the economy in fuel provided by motorships. The installation of Diesel engines in these ships has greatly increased cargo space, speed, and cruising radius.”
