MEETING OF EXECUTIVE VARIOUS ACTTVITIBS. The executive of tlie New Zealand branch of the British Bed Cross Society met yesterday morning in the rooms in Dixon street, Mr J. A. Flesher (Christchurch) presiding, and there were also present: Mr L. O. H. Tripp, Mr J. Burnett, Mrß S. F. Wright, and Mr Galloway.. (secretary). Apologies were received from Mr R. D. Robertson (Auckland), Lady Wigram (Christchurch), the Rev. Brian King (Otago) and Sir A. Roberta (Wellington). Letters, were received from the League of Red Cross Societies, stating that the plight of the Bulgarians is bad, and the league secretariat had sent money and kind to assist. The financial report of the league was received and considered satisfactory. LEAGUE OF RED CROSS SOCIETIES. A. letter acknowledging «£SQ was received ifrom the league, also asking national. societies to remit their next grant covering 18 months. A further J 825 was voted, for this purpose. It was resolved to furnish the Marine Department with a copy of the leagues letter re the health of merchant seamen. A report of the quarterly activities of the league was also a letter reporting the resignation of Sir Claud Hill (directorgeneral), at which it was decided to write expressing regret. It was decided, should any Red Cross delegates visit New Zealand, an itinerary should be mapped out and . the Minister for Railways asked for free .transport. Correspondence from the league also dealt with decisions of the board of governors« report of Director, Division of Health; a special con-* ference with the international committee, arid with identity cards. Centres had ' been asked fqgsay whether they desire, to have cards available. Auckland and Wellington favoured a few. It was decided to secure war graves' films and to have them screened on arrival. * AID FOR SAMOA. Letters had been received from his Excellency Sir Charles Fergusson on the need for sending milk, etc., to Samoa. Dr. • Christie, of Samoa, had called on the secretary, and gave convincing proof of the need of help. It was decided to Bend a quarter ton of Glaxo, of which Messrs Nathan and Co. had ‘promised to donate half. The centres other than Wellington had not consented to help in this matter. The purchase of a car for the Red Cross nurse at Waimate was authorised, the district to pay for upkeep. The discussion of a joint working basis with the Order of St. John was postponed until the return of the Hon. Dr. Collins, who had discussed the matter with the authorities at Home. The question of medallions and certificates was also discussed with regard to the emblems used. THAT .£30,000. The use of the ,£30,000- which by the decision of the Chief Justice is available, for Red Cross work was discussed. It was resolved that tho capital should be invested and the interest used where needed throughout New Zealand. It was resolved that a letter of thanks be sent to the society’s solicitors, Messrs Young, White and Courtney, for their considerate charge for services and their efforts in the case. Canterbury called attention to the fact that tb©re were a number of Southland men at Hanraer entirely supported from Canterbury funds. It was resolved that Southland committee be asked to assist.
