BLESSING IN DISGUISE
AN OPTIMISTIC VIEW DECUNE IN RUTTER PRICES BOARD MEMBER ON SITUATION (By Telegraph Special to “Times.”) AUCKLAND, September 9. . There is a silver lining to the cloud at present shadowing the London dairy produce market, according to Mr W. Goodfellow, a member of the Control Board, arid also managing director of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. He says that although the decline in the price of New Zealand butter on the London market to 135 s is not being hailed with joy, yet there is a bright side to the picture in that a clearing out of stored stocks of butter will clear the way for the-hew season’s produce and make it possible for compensating prices to be obtained. “I suppose it is just as well that this has happened,” he continued. “We have got to take our gruel. We have all got stocks that will suffer from the lowered prices. But there is this about it, the fall in values will stimulate consumption, and ail the old stuff should be off the market before the new season’s produce arrives. There will then be a better demand for New Zealand butter.” Mr Goodfellow added that the industry was hot feeling very anxious about the position. The latest advices from Australia indicated that September and October exports were not likely to exceed those of the corresponding months of last year, and NeW Zealand butter, therefore, would not have to face the competition of heavy shipments' from the Commonwealth early in the season.
