TANGIER’S ADMINISTRATION
NO OBSTACLES EXPECTED GERMANY’S ENTRY TO LEAGUE Australian and N Z. Cable Association. (Received August 29, 11.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 29. Viscount Cecil departed for Geneva yesterday. It is now confidently believed that no obstacle will arise to prevent Germany’s taking her seat as a permanent member of the League. Spain’s demand for a conference on the Tangier question is regarded unfavourably by Britain and France, who are opposed to the introduction of extraneous matters. The “Observer’s” Paris correspondent states: “The utmost that France and Britain are willing to consider is a modification by which France will bo given a greater part of the Tangier administration. But even this solution is hindered by the treaty provisions.” The “Sunday Times” diplomatic correspondent learns that the British Government argues that the holding of a conference on Tangier at so short a notice would not serve a useful purpose.” The “Sunday Express” states: “Signor Mussolini replied that Geneva is not a suitable place to discuss Tangier, and suggests that it be dealt with at a special conference elsewhere." league NOT FAVOURED BY ITALY. Renter’s Telegram. (Received August 30, 0.55 a.m.) ROME, August 28. Italy replied to the Spanish Note assuring Spain of Italy’s desire to meet all Spain’s just demands, and agreeing to Spain’s suggestion that the Tangier problem be submitted to an international conference of the Powers interested. Italian political circles infer from this that the Italian Government is unwilling that the problem should l>e submitted to the League of Nations. WOMEN’S OLYMPIAD '] Australian and N.Z.
