WOMAN SHOP-LIFTER
- HAD AMPLE WARNING DETECTED THIEVING. Ter Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 28. Alary Lila Thomas, a married woman, was charged at the Police Court with the theft of “aspras,” valued at Is Od, and three boxes of powder valued at 12s from two city shops. Accused was detected misappropriating “aspros,” and when searched was found ill possession of powder taken from another shop. Counsel for nccused said her husband was a fine, respectable, hardworking man, who stated that his wife had been a most estimable woman except for taking drink occasionally. He was sure his wife had not been systematically thieving. Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., said that these women had had ample warning. Only a few days ago a woman got fourteen days for Shoplifting. Accused would he filled £5 or fourteen days on the first charge, anil admitted to probation for twelve months on the second charge. A prohibition order would also be issued.
