Australian anrt N /. tlabjr As-u*-j),rioti (Received April 26, 9.10 p.m.) MILAN, April 26. The late Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot,” produced here, .provided an astonishing spectacle and a feast of colour. There was a brilliant cast, but the music is only important at the end of the characteristic third act, when the action ceases to be fantastic and becomes intensely human in character. The bteautiful, cruel Princess Turandot did not appeal to Puccini’s genius like the slave girl Liu, who is a creation resembling Mimi. The opera was successfully completed by Alfano, but the conclusion was aot played on the opening night.
