CORONATION IN PERSIA
RIZA KHAN CROWNS HIMSELF PICTURESQUE 3EREMONY. Published in "The Times." TEHERAN, April 25. The Shah of Persia’s coronation was a brilliant coremohy. The Shah, Riza Khan, wore a military uniform covered with a pearl cloak. He was attended by the Ministers. Those present included diplomatic representatives and notable personages. Afterwards the Shah, escorted by a military retinue, proceeded through crowded, beflagged streets to his palace outside the town. Barbaric splendour and Oriental wealth of colour marked the coronation. The Shah placed the new crown, which had been specially made, on his own head, spurning the gorgeous throne and pearl crown of bis predecessors in favour of tho simple throne and aigrette of Nadir Shah, the robber chief who two centuries ago proclaimed himself Shah. The triumphant progress- of the new monarch in a gilt royal coach through the streets lined with cheering thousands closed one of the most picturesque ceremonies of recent years.
