COMPOSER TURNS FARMER
AMERICAN COMPETITION DUSTY LONDON THEATRES. The craze for jazz music, the pursuit 'of New York theatrical successes by London managers, and the dust of the Londotw theatres have combined to drive Mr Howard Talbot, composer of “The Chinese Honeymoon,” and other musical plays of world fame, to the study of dairy farming in the heart of Surrey, and to keep him there. Mr Talbot is living, near Farnhaan, supervising his farm and writing new musical plays in his spare time. “My husband was driven into the country by*bronchial trouble contracted through breathing the dust of London theatres while conducting,” said Mrs Talbot to a press representative. “He is now eager to come hack to London, but we are going to wait until one of the three new musical plays which he has written is accepted by a London manager. “Managers do not seem to know a good play when they see it in manuscript. They must see a piece performed before their eyes. That is why they go off to New York, find a success thpre, and’bring it to London.”
