An estimate of the bird population of the Island of Bute was attempted by the Kev. J. M. McWiliiam in a paper read to the Ttoyal Physical Society in Erjin--recently. On the basis of shooting records and personal observation, ho said, there was reason to believe that the birds of Bute might number 400,000, about €OOO per square mile.
