MINISTERIAL t The Hon. Mr Downie Stewart went south last night. The Right Hen. J. G. Coatee received by yesterday’s mail the Royal warrant of his appointment as & "member of His Majesty’s Privy- Council. The warrant is dated February Ist, and is issued under th& hand of Sir Maurice Hankev, Clerk toPthe Privy Council. Mr w. J. Pascoe, who leases Wellington for Auckland to-day, has been engaged in many activities since he came to Wellington at the clo6© of the war. He joined up' when at Auckland, and on his return entered the State Advances Office. He haa been eight years on the executive of the R.S.A.; six years vide-president and delegate to the. Palmerston North and Dunedin conferences, taking active interest in Anzac Day observance and Poppy Day appeal. For five years he was on the Board of Governors of Wellington Technical College, organising a parents’ association, of which he became chairman. He organised the Lower Hutt Municipal Silver Band, obtaining the instruments for them, which » were the means of placing them in their present position, with a £IOOO set of instruments fully paid. He is expYesident and elected life member of the Crippled Soldiers’ and Sailors* Hostel Society, one of the founders and / chairman of the Western Hutt Advancement Society, and R.S.A. delegate to the War Memorial Committee since its inception. Mr Pascoe has resigned from the State Advances staff to take up an executive position with . the Goldberg Advertising Agency. ) Ltd., Auckland. He is leaving Wei- ‘ lington to take up his new duties in the Course of the next few days. The Hon. J. Barr, M.L.C., was a . passenger by the Wahine from Lyttelton yesterday. Mr J. Christie, Chief Crown Law Draughtsman, who has been on a world tour since last October, will return to Wellington by ihe Tahiti on Monday. Mr J. C. Hudson, American ViceConsul in charge* Wellington, expects to leave here by the Niagara on May ) 11th for Washington, D.C. Mr H. E. Admore left by the Athenic yesterday morning for England, and will be away from New Zealand for several months. Mr Will L. Lowrie, American Con-sul-General for New Zealand, is returning to Wellington early sn May. He will be accompanied by Mrs Lowrie. Sir Harold Beauchamp and Mr F. W. Furkert (engineer-in-chief to the Public Works Department) will join the Aorangi at Auckland for Vancouver. Mr 0. M. Pflug, export manager of the Tide Water Oil Company, New York, and Mr F. E. Jones, managing director of W, H. Simms and Sons, Ltd., arrived yesterday morning from Christchurch. A passenger by the Ulim&roa for - Sydney was Archbishop Redwood, who journeying to Perth and Adelaide to be present at the laying of the foun-dation-stones of the new cathedrals to be erected- in cities. The Archbishop will be away” for five weeks. Mr I. Salek, accompanied by Mrs Salek, is leaving for Auckland this morning for a holiday. Mr Salek will represent the Wanganui District, Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, /at the conference in Auckland on Monday next. Mr Salek will probably visit the North? Island district before he returns to Wellington. j Mr Herbert Smith, ex-manager of the Phoenix Assurance Company, and | past president of the Wellington Bowling Club, left by the Ulimaroa yesterday for Sydney, en route for England, where he intends to reside permanentlv—with his family. He has taken this step on account of his son, who is doing brilliant work as a scientist in 4 the Old Country. A passenger by the Ulimaroa from Wellington for Sydney yesterday was Mr Storey, Treasurer of the Gladstone Park Bowling Club, Balmain, Sydney. Mr Storey, who was accompanied by his wife, son, and daughter, has just# returned from California. He is a brother of the late Mr John Storey, Labour Premier of New South Wales. He spent a few days in Wellington, and on Thursday afternoon was the guest of the president of the Wellington Bowling Club. Mr H. E. Mayer, at the green.
