UNLICENSED SETS OFFENDERS BEFORE THE , COURT Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, April'9. Amateur -wireless operators, who had erected sets without getting the necessary permits from the Post and Telegraph Department/ were proceeded against by the Post and Tele* graph Department in the Police Court, before Mr J» G« Hewitt, S.M., to-daye It was explained by Senior* Sergeant Quartermain that a good many sets had been erected in this way, and the cases were taken as a warning. The charge against each of the four defendants, who were J. D. Todd, Alfred JohnSoA, H. A. Harper,, and H. A. Footte, was that he did establish a plant capable of receiving wireless Signals without haying previously obtained a license issued by the Mimster as. required under secfifak.l64 of the Post and Telegraph Act>*J9oß, as amended in 1913 and 1920. ”■ All the defendants, except one, admitted thi offence. One said that his set was not connected with an aerial, but when the Magistrate explained that this was not the point involved he altered his plea. .“These cases are taken as a warning," said the Magistrate. “I will adopt the sdme course as that taken in Wellington. Each, defendant will be convicted and ordered. to pay costs.’’
