UNIVERSAL PITCH Ter Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 28. The conference of the New Zealand Society of Professional Musicians was concluded to-day. Mr Will Hutchens’s paper. Music and tHe Community,’* was fully discussed. It dealt with many aspects of the public attitude towards the musician, and the readiness of the public to seek free service from the professional, and also with the influence for good by musicians. The Wellington femit, "That steps bo ,taken to secure universal pitch in Now Zealand," was discussed at length, and a motion was carried recommend--lo£o£ that members on return to their districts should take stops to induce the adoption of a universal pitch by holding, for instance, a series of concerts in aid of a set of instruments tuned to a universal pitch. Miss Valerio Corliss, of Wellington, read an interesting paper on “The Orchestra in Relation to Pianoforte Playing.” It was decided that next conference bo held in Wellington in 1927, and Christchurch was fixed as a probable venue for 1928. The conference resolved to send an expression of satisfaction to the Minister for Education at the appointment of a Director of School Music, which was considered a most important milestone in the history of' music in the Dominion.
