MORE TONNAGE HANDLED EXTENSION OF SEAWALL. The business done in open board at the meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board last night occupied ten minutes. Mr.G. Mitchell presided in the absence of Mr M. Cohen, who is indisposed. The credit balance on the current account waa £79,548, and accounts passed for payment £74,157. The chairman said the outgoings _ were larger than usual owing to the interest and other charges amounting to about £19,000, and other special payments amounting to about £22,000. In presenting the engineer’s report, the chairman remarked that the Miramar extension was now drawing to a close, and would be finished shortly. The contractor had had an unfortunate time on the work owing to the had weather. The seawall was to be extended down to Kaiwarra, and was to be gone on with immediately. Speaking as one now connected with carrying he said the Pipitea shed was a wonderful move forward in enabling carriers to get stuff away. The figures for the month showed an increase on the corresponding month last year, oil being the biggest factor. INCREASED TONNAGE The figures for the month showed the total tonnage to be 161,750, against 124,615 for December, 1924. There was an increase of 21,000 tons in general cargo imports from British and foreign ports, the total being 37,290. Over 21,000 tons of oil were handled, com?.ared with 5300, but coal had fallen rom 42,000 tons to 35,000. Wool shipments amounted to 29,000 bales (19,850), butter and cheese 14,750 tons (9500). TimbeS imports reached 1,746,726 super feet, wlnoh is 520,000 feet in excess of figures for December. 1924, while exported timber amounted to 111,051 mlbie feet, against 93,363.
